Twist has produced the world’s 1st plant based sponge. Twist scrub sponges make it possible for you to clean kindly and sustainably. Made free of dyes, chemicals and glues, the twist sponge is literally making the world cleaner.
The Twist sponge uses 100% plant based materials. They are made using all natural fibers from hemp, agave, cotton and loofah. The wood pulp for their cellulose comes from FSC Certified sources. Plus, all of their scrubbers are hand sewn onto their cellulose bases. Also, the Twist sponge is certified biodegradable under ASTM D 6868 when disposed of properly.
Now conceptionally I love what the Twist sponge does. I love that it’s absorbent. When wiping a spill, the Twist sponge will work effectively and with ease. I also love the colored option. Of course white sponges stain easily. So having a colored option works. Lastly, I love that it’s sized like a traditional kitchen sponge, which saves space.
Now despite its’ many attributes, I do have my share of gripes with the Twist sponge. First, I don’t understand why an eco-friendly product would have ever been packaged in plastic. Though, it has recently changed to paper so all is well. Next, it falls apart a bit quickly, which makes it way inferior to a conventional sponge and impractical for regular daily use. Lastly, if you’re not careful, it may not be the most sanitary. You have to stay on top of nuking it in the microwave to treat it for bacterial growth. Otherwise, you’ll have a bacteria-ridden sponge in your midst. You may also observe this over an extended period of time. Some have even reported signs of mold developing.
Overall, I love the concept of the Twist sponge. Obviously, improvements need to be made. We’ll keep an eye out for that and let you know if and when that happens. Still try it and judge it for yourself. With proper usage it may be a game changer and rid the landfills of yet another sponge. Either way, Twist still holds the title as the world’s 1st plant based sponge.
