Trader Joe’s Beef-less Ground Beef crumbles are another option that truly nails the texture. It is quite flavorful. So for that reason it may not be the most versatile. The flavoring comes on rather strong so I primarily use this one in dishes that are very flavorful on their own such as tacos.
Morningstar Grillers Crumbles
Morningstar Grillers Crumbles are one of the O.G’s of meatless crumbles. If you are a long-time vegan this was no doubt your go-to for years. Now Morningstar texture isn’t exactly what I’d say is in the pocket. However, as a pioneer it doesn’t at all take away in the least. The flavor is subtle making it a very comprehensive product that can be used in just about anything. Another plus is that Morningstar is readily available. You’ll readily find Morningstar Grillers Crumbles in mostly every local grocer.
Boca Veggie Crumbles
Boca is another soy protein based meatless crumbles product that is one of the O.G.’s. Boca was right alongside Morningstar in the early days of meatless wonders. The texture of Boca is satisfactory as is the flavor. Boca crumbles can truly be used in just about anything.
Beyond Meat Beefy Crumbles
Beyond Meat crumbles are plant protein based, primarily pea protein based. Now Beyond Meat is one of the absolute best at nailing texture. Beyond Meat is very flavorful though. As much as it is meaty in texture it is tasty. The taste in Beyond Meat crumbles is pretty intense so for me it doesn’t lend itself to the versatility that some of the other options do. I only use Beyond Meat Crumbles in dishes that are inherently flavorful such as chili.
Impossible Burger
Now Impossible Burger wins 1st place for both texture and taste. It looks, feels, smells and tastes like ground meat more than any other meatless product currently on the market. You can absolutely use Impossible Burger in anything. Be prepared though because you may forget that it’s meatless.
Lightlife Smart Ground
Lightlife Smart Ground makes the list for it’s longevity. It’s also readily available in most local grocers. Now in terms of texture it may be the least accurate among those on this list. However, the flavor is satisfyingly subtle and neutral making Lightlife Smart Ground very diverse.
