A hot, new zero waste trend is on the rise. La Tour Cycle Café, a British cafe, is now serving to go coffee in ceramic mugs. Disposable coffee cups generate a crap load of waste. So a coffee shop in Britain has opted to serve up their coffee in ceramic mugs in lieu of disposable cups. More surprising is that supply does not seem to be of any concern.
The cafe is asking patrons to donate unused coffee mugs cluttering their cabinets. Treehugger reports that people in Ipswich can now donate their unwanted mugs to the cafe for others to use. In addition, there is a basket out front where customers can leave donations or return mugs they previously took.
Inhabit reports that as many as 2.5 billion coffee cups are disposed across the United Kingdom every year. This equates to more than 6.8 million cups per day.
So as it turns out it’s a win-win for everyone. This means less disposable cups in the landfills, biodegradable and non-degradable alike. It also, means less cluttered kitchen cabinets in this newly emerging minimalist world in which we are finding ourselves. All the while, you still get to sit back and enjoy your favorite beverages.
What do you think of this British cafe serving to go coffee in ceramic mugs? Would you like to see this happen worldwide?
