Ikea has launched plant based meatballs. Depending on the state of things where you live regarding COVID-19 and closures you’ll soon be able to enjoy a plant based lunch at Ikea.
They’re called “Plant Balls” and are a meat-free alternative made from yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion, and apple. More sustainable, the plant ball has a climate footprint that’s 96 percent smaller than traditional pork and beef meatballs.
Not too long ago Ikea pledged to be climate positive by 2030. So this is another step in that direction. In a statement, Hege Sæbjørnsen, Country Sustainability Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland said, “In order to reduce the climate footprint of the total IKEA business, including our food business, and make climate friendly, delicious food available for everyone, we are making sure meat alternatives are an easy, desirable and affordable choice.”
Today Ikea has announced that Plant Balls will be available at Ikea Bistros on August 3 and October 26th at Ikea restaurants across 290 locations in Europe. Other countries to follow in the coming months. Ikea says that you will also be able to buy them frozen at their blue box stores to eat at home.
So depending on where you live, Ikea will have launched their plant based meatballs. Hence, your next visit can be even more enjoyable than before. Not only will you be able to pick out some fab, chic, affordable furniture, you’ll have the option to take a lunch break where you get to enjoy a lunch that is literally reducing your carbon footprint.
