Can you tell if the veganism trend is here for the long haul?
Veganism is currently at an all time high. It is a movement that is being driven by young people who are challenging conventional beliefs and making more ethical and compassionate choices. Veganism has become the movement that is making a lot of noise along the way.
There is compelling proof that the number of vegans is on the up. The Vegan Society’s latest research conducted in 2018 revealed that there are around 600,000 vegans in Great Britain. BBC reported that the UK market for meat-free foods was reportedly worth £740m in 2018, according to market researchers Mintel, up from £539m only three years ago.
Research firm GlobalData reported that there’s been a 600% increase in people identifying as vegans in the U.S. in the last three years. Data from Google Trends indicates that the relative frequency of Google searches for “vegan” has approximately quadrupled since 2012.
Meanwhile, evidence of the rise in veganism is more apparent than ever in the restaurant industry. A massive number of restaurants and fast-food companies have launched, or announced, vegan options around the globe.
Statica reported that in 2017, the global plant protein market was valued at US$10.5 billion (A$15.65 billion) and this number is predicted to increase to USD $16.3 billion (A$24.3 billion) by 2025. Countries with traditionally meat-based diets like Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and South Africa now represent the world’s top ten global share of vegan product launches.
Hence, it is clear that veganism has gone mainstream and it’s not just about the animals anymore. People around the globe are also turning to veganism out of concern for health and the environment. Others are turning to veganism in the interest of weight management.
Regardless of the reason, this compelling evidence confirms that veganism is more than just a fly-by-night trend. It signifies that veganism will continue to be one of the fastest growing lifestyle movements for years to come.
Do you think the veganism trend is here for the long haul? How long have you been vegan? Can you imagine ever going back to meat?
