When the COVID-19 hoarding and panic buying of toilet tissue began many were forced into trying out recycled toilet tissue. Depending on how you look at it that may or may not be a bad thing.
Now this doesn’t mean that people are re-using toilet tissue. Thank goodness! Recycled toilet paper is tissue made with 100% recycled paper. While some have been forced into using recycled toilet paper, others have been doing so by choice. It seems there are some benefits to using recycled toilet paper. It helps to preserve trees, protect habitats, and save energy. It’s free of inks, dyes and scents.
Yet, though there are several benefits to using recycled toilet paper, it does come with a rather sizable con. Recycled toilet paper is often contaminated with BPA and BPS.
Since recycled toilet tissue is produced from paper, it comes with an inherit risk. There is a slight risk of BPA exposure. Thermal paper is typically coated with BPA. This is done in order to reduce fading, which is especially common in paper receipts, some newspapers, magazines, tickets, and flyers. BPA is an endocrine disruptor that has been linked to cancer, diabetes, liver and thyroid problems, birth defects, and heart disease.
So if you’re looking to make a positive environmental impact, there are other alternatives to using recycled toilet paper that you may explore. Some include bamboo toilet tissue and a bidet Meanwhile, others can wait for something more innovative to come along.
