If you’ve set out to find a vegan, non toxic deodorant that actually works than you know all too well of the difficulty of meeting success. Multiply that times ten if you want one that works and doesn’t contain baking soda or aluminum.
For many, like myself, baking soda is a major skin irritant so natural deodorants containing that ingredient must be avoided. However, that’s a lot easier said than done because nearly all plant based, natural deodorants contain baking soda.
Well the good news is that Ethique has answered the call. Ethique is the all natural deodorant that checks all the boxes. It’s vegan, sustainable, free of baking soda, aluminum and palm oil. The Ethique deodorant bar is available in 3 scents including Botanica (lavender and vanilla), Rustic (lime and eucalyptus) and Sans (unscented). It comes in a 2.47 ounce bar.
It’s key ingredient is bamboo. Bamboo works well to absorb sweat and sebum. In fact, it absorbs 200% it’s own weight in sweat and oil. Another key ingredient is magnesium hydroxide which works to keep the stench away. Specifically, magnesium hydroxide prevents the growth and proliferation of bacteria (which is responsible for the BO smell) by altering the pH of your skin. Other key ingredients include zinc oxide, which is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, and jojoba and sweet almond oil.
Best of all it’s packaging is zero waste and excludes plastic, laminate and chlorine. By swapping plastic for paper Ethique has saved over 6 million plastic bottles from winding up in a landfill to date. They have set a goal to hit 50 million by 2025.
Overall, Ethique deodorant bar is the most impressive all natural, plant based deodorant that I’ve seen on the market. I’ve tried just about every plant based deodorant on the market and this one has kept me smelling the freshest. Please note, however, that it is not an antiperspirant. So that means this bar will not stop or block your sweat glands. Instead, it will help keep your underarms smelling fresh.
Nonetheless, if you require a deodorant that is free of baking soda and aluminum then the Ethique Deodorant Bar is well worth a try. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s the zero waste way to smell good.
