Cissus quadrangularis or Veld grape (aka devil’s backbone, adamant creeper and bone setter) has been used as a medicinal plant since antiquity. It is native to tropical Asia, Arabia and much of Africa. It is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in Thailand.

The healing properties of veld grape are attributed to its high contents of vitamin C and antioxidant compounds like carotenoids, tannins, and phenols.

Veld grape is most commonly used for bone health. It is believed to help heal broken bones. In fact, NCBI reported that in a study 9 people were observed taking 500 mg of veld grape 3 times per day for 6 weeks. The result was that veld grape expedited the healing of fractured jaw bones.

NCBI additionally reported that in another study veld grape was shown to help reduce joint pain and relieve symptoms of arthritis. The 8-week study of 29 men with chronic joint pain found that taking 3,200 mg of Cissus quadrangularis daily significantly reduced exercise-induced joint pain.

Many believe that the benefits of veld grape extend even further. Veld grape is said to have the following additional benefits.
