Scientific Studies Prove Vegan Diet Linked To Reduced Risks Of Cancer And Type 2 Diabetes

How epic? There are now scientific studies that prove the vegan diet is linked to reduced risks of cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Contrary to popular belief, not all vegans adopt a vegan diet due to environmental concerns and advocacy against animal abuse. A significant number of people choose a vegan diet due to health needs. In fact, there is now scientific research to support the health benefits of a vegan diet.

Amidst the alarming increase of health risks associated with meat based diets the vegan diet is shining like the north star. It’s well known that the vegan diet has been linked to several health benefits and now this is backed by science.

Recently studies have shown a link between the vegan diet and a reduced risk of cancer. The most well-founded evidence of this comes by way of a 15-year-long study known as the Oxford Vegetarian Study This study was conducted by Oxford University and colleagues from the UK and New Zealand. Essentially, the study revealed direct evidence that vegetarian diets are associated with a 12% reduced cancer risk.

Meanwhile, in 2016 after researching 26,000 men scientists from Loma Linda University in California assessed a potential link between various diets and prostate cancer. Specifically, the study compared vegan, pescatarian, and vegetarian diets and revealed that vegan was the most effective.

Next, according to National Institutes of Health, vegans show a 50–78% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, other research had more convincing data to support this finding. A 2019 Harvard study of 300,000 participants revealed that a vegan diet drastically reduced the chance of getting type 2 diabetes. According to Healthline, in another study, 43% of participants following a vegan diet were able to reduce their dosage of blood-sugar-lowering medication, compared to only 26% in the group that followed an ADA-recommended diet.

In the wake of so many reports of increasingly poor health conditions among some many Americans, these finding are groundbreaking. Cancer.net reports that prostate cancer is now the most common cancer among men. Moreover, it is projected that an estimated 191,930 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020. The Center for Disease Control reported an alarming increase in diabetes in the U.S. in 2020 having risen to an estimated 34.2 million.

With projections like these, the exploration of a vegan diet seems more important than ever. The science emphatically supports the glowing health benefits of a vegan diet that make it well worth a try.
