To save you time, money and contorted taste buds find out the best vegan broths.
For vegans broth is a huge deal when it comes to the flavoring of our food. There are several brands out there. Yet all vegan broth is not created equal. Some are virtually flavorless. Then there are others that have nothing to offer short of a weird aftertaste.
Yet, vegan broth is a necessity to plant based cooking. It can make all the difference in how a dish turns out. With that said, here are the best vegan broths currently on the market.
Pacific Foods
Pacific Foods has been the go-to vegetable broth for years. It has a garden fresh flavor that really shines in soups and stews. Pacific broth has a rich texture that puts it a step above other bland, thin, watery brands on the market.
Imagine
Imagine Vegetable Broth has a satisfactory flavor. It’s not the most savory, but it gets the job done. Whether you’re using it on sauteed vegetables or a pasta dish it definitely adds a boost of flavor that would be noticeably absent without it.
Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s Vegetable Broth is sub par. It’s not the most flavorful. However, its priced well and conveniently located at Trader Joe’s, which I frequently visit. Because broth is somewhat of a staple in most vegan homes and is used for so many things its great to have it readily available. So if you’re a Trader Joe’s shopper you’ll appreciate the convenience of being able to pick this broth up when you’re there. For that reason, Trader Joe’s Vegetable Broth checks a box for me.
Whole Foods 365
Whole Foods 365 Organic Vegetable Broth is thin and bland. However, it makes the list because its useful as a base when cooking grains. It’s also good in d.i.y. salad dressings. Also, similar to Trader Joe’s it gets a point for being conveniently located at Whole Foods.
Better Than Bouillon
Better Than Bouillon is made with seasoned vegetables. Thus, it does not offer strong flavoring. However, if you need to lightly season something its a solid choice. If you need to season some tofu or seitan Better Than Bouillon would be perfect.
Not Chik’n
We saved the best for last. Not Chik’n is by far our favorite vegan broth. It is savory and delicious. It comes in the form of cubes and is available in two flavors, Not-Chik’n and Not-Beef. The ingredients are clean and it more than compensates for flavor. Not Chick’n is the richest in flavor when put up against the other brands. It definitely makes a mean batch of gravy.
