Burger King is in flaming hot trouble with ‘conservative moms group’ for using the d-word in an Impossible Whopper promo.
Activist conservative group One Million Moms is beefing with Burger King for using the ‘d-word’ in an Impossible Whopper ad. The ad was posted online in August. The ad featured customers who were asked to taste-test the plant based version of the Whopper. One satisfied customer responded by saying, “Damn, that’s good!” The conservative ‘moms’ group lashed out accusing Burger King of being ‘irresponsible and tasteless.’ One Million Moms quickly launched a petition requesting Burger King to remove the ad from social media and TV.
According to One Million Moms the ad was being aired during prime time when families were most likely to be watching. On their website One Million Moms states, “It is extremely destructive and damaging to impressionable children viewing the commercial. We all know children repeat what they hear.” They go on to petition parents to “Let the fast-food restaurant know that as a parent and a customer you are disgusted by its recent marketing choices.” As of now 11,512 people have signed the petition.
OneMillionMoms.com is a division of the American Family Association. The American Family Association is a non-profit evangelical Christian group. One Million Moms is most notoriously known for targeting groups that feature LGBT people or relationships in a positive light.
In December the group succeeded in getting the Hallmark Channel to remove an ad for the wedding website Zola. The ad featured a same-sex couple, which the group claimed was “still extremely controversial and it should be left to parents to bring up the subject with children.” One Million Moms said, “It is clear that Hallmark is no longer family friendly.” The network initially removed the ad, but later reinstated it with an apology. To date One Million Moms is still petitioning against the ad’s reinstatement along with 57,947 signers.
As for the Burger King petition more people are siding with Burger King. Many are calling the petition ridiculous and saying the the group has gone too far.
