Daiya vs Go Veggie Shredded Cheese? Which is your favorite in the battle of the vegan cheeses???
As a vegan cheese is definitely one of the indulgences that I have often missed. Cheese pizza, mac n cheese, cheese popcorn, lasagna and all of my other cheesey favorites were for some time a very long, lost love. However, now from time to time I am able to once again indulge in such pleasures as there are now a couple of vegan cheese substitutes. My favorites are Daiya and Go Veggie (the new brand that just hit the market). If you haven’t already tried either of them then choosing one over the other may be difficult.
For starters, the labels on both read VERY well! Neither contains soy, casein, or hydrogenated oils and both are non-gmo. YEAH BABY!!! Also, both are priced under $5 which isn’t too bad. Both brands melt very well, which is generally an attribute that is difficult to come by in the world of non-dairy.
Now when it comes to texture these brands venture off on their own a bit. The texture of Go Veggie is very similar to dairy cheese. Heck they came so close that I’m surprised they didn’t get the dairy cheese smell! So, if you’re looking for a looser texture than you’ll prefer Go Veggie’s cheese shreds. Nonetheless, the texture of Daiya I also like. In fact, its more velvety texture when melted with some homemade salsa makes for one heck of a cheese nachos movie night! Yum!!!
Overall, I really dig both brands. There are instances where I prefer one over the other which is why I like to always have one of each on hand. Go Veggie works well on my pita pizzas and lasagna while Daiya is simply delish as a cheesy melt over tortilla chips!
