Jenné Claiborne, also known as YouTuber and blogger, Sweet Potato Soul, launched her first cookbook entitled, Sweet Potato Soul: 100 Easy Vegan Recipes for the Southern Flavors of Smoke, Sugar, Spice, and Soul : A Cookbook. Claiborne has graced us with her charming, charismatic personality for nearly a decade.
She is a professional vegan chef by trade. Her culinary style is heavily influenced by her southern upbringing. Claiborne was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia where she developed a love for southern style cooking. The rest is history.
Claiborne has since been seen and featured in Shape, Huffpost, Taste, Reader’s Digest, Vegetarian Times and well+GOOD magazines. She has a social media following of over 700K and a highly successful blog filled with loads of delicious vegan southern style recipes and meal plans.
Most notable of Claiborne’s cookbook is the creation of an array of rich, savory flavors. At the beginning of the Sweet Potato Soul cookbook Claiborne educates you on southern pantry essentials. Then, as you journey through the cookbook this proves very useful and key to attaining the succulent, flavorful dishes that Claiborne accomplishes.
Now Claiborne does not require that a lot be made from scratch and instead has you purchase several condiments and such pre-made. For some this may be off-putting. However, I found it very convenient, quick and easy. Time isn’t always a luxury that I have to spare so I appreciated those shortcuts.
Overall, Sweet Potato Soul contains more gems than I can name. Nearly every recipe is a win. Cheddar & Chives Buscuits are a must try. Skillet Cornbread and Tender Mess o’ Collards takes you back to times when food was nutrient rich, wholesome and tasty. If you enjoy the rich flavor and heartiness of comfort foods then you’ll absolutely love this cookbook.
