Surprisingly, there are several vegan options now at Hard Times Cafe. Find out what they are…
Hard Times Cafe is already known in the vegan community for their stellar homemade vegan chili made with soy protein. However, surprisingly there is one other option. You can also try their veggie burger and remember to hold the cheese.
Then there is also one particular Hard Times Cafe location that I’d like to shine the spot light on. The Twin Cities Hard Times Cafe in Minneapolis, Minnesota is a cooperatively owned staple of Minneapolis. It’s known for its punk and hippie ideology, its gritty ambiance, and most importantly its enormous selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Here are some of their vegan breakfast menu items.
- The Big Fat Vegan Pancake
- Tofu & Toast
- Hashbrowns
- Vegan Sausage
- Vegan Classic Breakfast (consists of scrambled tofu, hash browns and toast)
- Vegan Breakfast Bagel (tofu, vegan sausage pattie served on a toasted bagel with melted vegan soy cheese)
- Vegan Biscuits & Gravy (house made mushroom gravy, tomatoes and scallions served with homemade vegan biscuits)
- Vegan Biscuit Breakfast (vegan biscuit, tofu, hash browns & vegan sausage)
- Vegan Helter Skelter (hash browns, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, scrambled tofu served with choice of toast)
Then their sandwich menu is just as mouthwatering! Check out what that looks like.
- Vegan Grilled Cheese
- Tempeh Rueben
- TLT
- Seitan Philly
- Bahn Mi (house made seitan on a hoagie with radish-carrot pickle, cucumbers, topped with spicy cilantro-jalapeno vegenaise)
- Seitan Gyro
- Falafel Sandwich
- Veggie Wrap
Some vegan specialty items are:
- Tofu Garden Scramble (tofu scrambled with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and garlic on a bed of spinach with a side of brown rice)
- Steamed Rice & Vegetables
- Hummus & Pita
- Hummus Platter

They also have a Mexicala menu with even more vegan goodies. Are you hungry yet?
It’s rare to find a mainstream restaurant with such an extensive list of vegan menu options. So if you find yourself in the Twin Cities be sure to check out their Hard Times Cafe. Then leave us a comment below about your experience.
