Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Don’t Give A F…, written by the Los Angeles based duo, Matt Holloway and Michelle Davis, began as a wildly popular website with fans the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow along with over half a million others. Eventually, Thug Kitchen crew’s path led them to the creation of this hilariously foul-mouthed cookbook.
Thug Kitchen delivers you recipes in a style that is raw and uncut. Starting off, the authors give you a very thorough run-down of all the essential kitchen tools, pantry items and plant based staples. This is ever so helpful, particularly if you are newly vegan.
Then what I find to be an exceptional caveat to this cookbook is how the authors thoughtfully provide very detailed instructions on how to properly cook dried beans and basic grains. Knowing how to do this makes preparing hearty, home-cooked meals easier than ever. Different grains require different preparation. So, while unexpected, the inclusion of this is golden.
This cookbook continues to deliver the unexpected throughout via the most zany recipes and the even more offbeat ingredient combinations. Recipes like Maple Berry Grits and Lemon Mint Quinoa though uncanny are surprisingly tasty.
Yet, the closer to home recipes don’t disappoint either. Grain lovers will adore the Moroccan Spiced Couscous. Meanwhile, salad lovers will live for the Almond Caesar Salad with Homemade Croutons.
Overall, while the language may be distracting for some, others will find that nothing can detract from the charm, nourishment and creativity of the recipes. Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Don’t Give A F… is the plant based cookbook that everybody loves to hate. With recipes that are as delicious as they are artistically crafted this cookbook is sure to continue to win over fans from all walks of life.
