This week’s Netflix and Chill fav is a new show called Ragnarok. Now I must admit that I am both a sci-fi and mythology fanatic. So I may not be the most objective when it comes to shows like this.
Nonetheless, I came across this show when I was on the prowl for a new show to satisfy my affinity to The 100. This show kept popping up so I decided to give it a try.
Ragnarok, starring Herman Tømmeraas (as Fjor), David Alexander Sjøholt (as Magne Seier, Theresa Frostad Eggesbø (as Saxa), and Synnøve Macody Lund (as Ran), is a Norwegian-language fantasy drama series inspired by Norse mythology.
The show is about a small Norwegian town experiencing warm winters and violent downpours. This strange weather is said to be indicative of a Ragnarok, which is said to have happened in the past. In mythology, a Ragnarok was said to be the final destruction of the world in the conflict between the Aesir and the powers of Hel led by Loki. It was also referred to as Twilight of the Gods.
This show had me in the first 5 minutes, which is always a good sign. From there I was hooked and could not stop watching. It offers a superbly written plot, excellent acting and unbelievable graphics.
The storyline is larger than life in a way that it literally has you questioning historical events and their impact on the present day. Who were the gods and who were the giants? Are they here among us now?
Overall, Ragnarok gives a fab modern twist on old Norse legends in a way that is creative and very entertaining. For that reason, Ragnarok is my Netflix and Chill fav and is well worth the watch. I can’t wait till season 2!
Have you seen Ragnarok? What did you think?
