Netflix and Chill Fav – Tiger King

This week’s Netflix and Chill fav is Tiger King. This mini series was far from anything that I’d call a quality show. However, it sure was a good way to pass the time during quarantine. For the most part it was highly entertaining. As heavily scripted as it was, it played more like a comedy than anything that I could remotely take the least bit serious.

However, out of everything that the show depicted, what was most intriguing was how far man has come from harmoniously co-existing with nature. Somewhere along the way some among us have taken on this narcissistic, superiority demeanor towards nature. The show producers further illustrated this agenda by audaciously crowning Joe Exotic (the main character) the tiger King as if he would ever be worthy of such a title among a divine, majestic, highly regarded creature as the tiger.

Meanwhile, the show spotlighted others, who still in arrogance, saw themselves as nature’s caregivers. These people committed the most egregious acts to the contrary all in the name of ‘helping nature.’

I can’t recall a single time in the existence of man that nature ever ‘needed’ man’s help. In fact, nature’s existence far precedes that of humanity and as history proves, has done just fine on it’s own.

So watching Tiger King brought up the question for me, who needs who? Humanity literally needs nature for its survival. However, nature in no way needs humanity. This being the case, I just don’t understand why some among us keep interfering with something that deserves the utmost reverence, respect and adoration from us. Nature is so fiercely independent that it’s disrespectful for humanity to even attempt to control it.

Thoughts like those and many others raced through my mind as I watched the caged regal creatures at times pacing about. I could see in the tigers eyes a biding of time, calculation of circumstances with a gleam of prophetic inspiration. As I watched Tiger King I wondered, when nature decides that the time has come to take a defensive posture against humanity, how will we fare?
