So my ultimate healthy snacking find this week was at Trader Joes. I am loving their dried and dehydrated fruits. First of all Trader Joe’s has the most amazing selection of dried fruit that I have come by. They have everything from mangoes, apples and pineapples to blueberries and strawberries.
Dried fruit is fruit from which almost all of the water content has been removed through drying methods. Thus, the water content may be removed either naturally, through sun drying, or through the use of specialized dryers or dehydrators.
The result is an energy-dense dried fruit snack that is is sweet, savory and satisfying. The most common types of dried fruits include raisins, dates, prunes, figs and apricots. Others include some of my favorites, mangoes, pineapples, cranberries, bananas and apples. Dried fruit are a snack that particularly come in handy during times like these when fresh produce isn’t as viable.
They have a long shelf life, don’t require refrigeration and best of all they are highly nutritious. Dried fruit contains up to 3.5 times the fiber, vitamins and minerals of fresh fruit. It also contains loads of fiber and is a great source of antioxidants.
Now what I am loving about Trader Joe’s dried fruit is the price. Shop around all you want, but it will be a challenge to beat their prices. As nutritious as dried fruit is, the price is often an deterrent. However, that is not the case at Trader Joe’s.
While you can make your own dried fruit you may either not want to or not have the necessary equipment to do so. That’s where packaged dried fruit comes in handy and Trader Joe’s is a great place to get yours.
Throughout this period of social distancing, Trader Joe’s dried fruit has been nothing short of a saving grace in my house. Being stuck in the house for long periods of time can often lead to the adoption of unhealthy snacking habits, but this is not one of them.
