My Netflix and chill fav of the week is House Of Cards. House Of Cards is an American political thriller starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. It’s an oldie but goody, but for me shows like this are timeless. House Of Cards is definitely one for the watch list.
Built on the premise that people will abandon their values at the slightest hint of personal gain, House of cards is about ambition, ruthless revenge, and betrayal. Specifically, it’s a drama about a ruthless congressman and his equally ambitious wife who navigate the corridors of power in Washington, D.C.
The writing is superb, the production values are lush and the pacing is tight. The actors give strong, pristine, commanding performances. Often described as Bill and Hillary Clinton wrapped in Netflix, the main characters Frank, who was a southern Democrat, and Claire Underwood his wife, navigate the waters of Frank’s adultery among other misdeeds. Meanwhile, a ruthlessly ambitious Claire endures the chilly marriage to the ends of achieving her political ambitions with a willingness to do whatever it takes to gain an upper hand.
The backstabbing and manipulative dance that continues to evolve between the couple makes for an unexpected thrilling, semi-realistic story of politics that becomes less outrageous by comparison as the story unfolds. You’ll struggle to decide who is the good or bad man/woman because it’s often difficult to decide if what you dislike about the character is actually what you most admire.
Unfortunately, Kevin Spacey was not in the final season. However, the show was still just as intriguing as the writer never missed a beat and still captured the same ruthlessness that we grew accustomed to seeing.
Overall, House of Cards is an exciting, intriguing, engrossing drama that is definitely binge-worthy. The plots will never get old. If you love shows like Scandal or The West Wing, then you’ll love House Of Cards.
